Many of the classic fairy tales surprisingly came from the Brothers Grimm. They didn't necessarily make them up all by themselves, though. Some they collected when they heard others tell them. The original German versions were changed over time and Americanized to be fit to tell to children. Many of the stories that are told in German have a lot more gore than many of the American versions. The Americanized ones also have more magic and what we have come to think of as fairy tales. In the story Cinderella, there is no fairy godmother. Instead it is a wishing tree. Also in the German version of little red riding hood, the grandmother is actually eaten. This doesn't happen to my knowledge in the American version. Snow white is also different because in the German version there is no poisoned apple but other poisoned wares that Snow white has. It shows that the Germans want to scare their children whereas the Americans don't.
The story of old sultan is like the fox and the hound a little bit. They are both not supposed to be friends but they are despite the usual stigma between them. They are trying to teach that despite stigmas and looks, you can still be friends.Fairy tales are different from other stories because they use works like "once upon a time" at the beginning. Some fairy tales have magic and others are set in different places like a castle or a forest.
