I have discovered that the eating habits of Germans are
slightly different than ours in America. The meal times and portions seem to be
distributed differently. They eat a normal breakfast, similar to ours, and then
they used to eat their main meal during our lunch time between 12 and 2 PM but
now the meal is becoming lighter. The dinner course is more specific to eating
a main meal. For regional specialties, the south tends to have an increased
popularity of side dishes. In Germany the efficiency of the shopping process is
essential. They also are not given bags to carry their groceries each trip to
the store, they must purchase their bags which is quite ecologically sound.
Since I attend school every day I have different shopping
and eating habits. For example, I eat a light breakfast in the morning and a hearty
meal at dinner time and I snack throughout the day. As for my shopping, I tend
to shop all at once. When I do go grocery shopping I buy a large quantity of
groceries. If I lived in Germany I would probably go shopping more frequently
because of the fact you have to carry all of your groceries each and every time
you shop. I would also probably eat a larger variety of foods compared to what
I can purchase and keep in my dorm room. I would also probably eat out more
frequently than I do now because I don’t think I’d have spare time to go
shopping. It would probably be more convenient to eat out and cook/prepare fewer
meals.
